Thirumalapuram: Iron Age Site in Tamil Nadu
Recently, the Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology (TNSDA) uncovered an extensive Iron-Age burial site at Thirumalapuram (Tenkasi district) during its first season of excavations.
- The burial site at Thirumalapuram covers nearly 35 acres and lies about 10 km northwest of the present-day village, between two seasonal streams that rise from the Western Ghats near the Kulasegarapereri tank.

- Type: Urn burial site, typical of Iron Age Megalithic culture in South India.
- Unique Discovery: A rectangular stone slab chamber containing urn burials, first of its kind in Tamil Nadu.
