Trilobite Fossils
- A recent research details new trilobite species, including one named after Thai Royal Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
- These trilobite fossils were found between layers of petrified ash in sandstone, a result of ancient volcanic eruptions settling on the sea floor.
- The green layer formed is called a tuff and contains resilient zircon crystals, a mineral as tough as steel.
- Zircon, chemically stable and weather-resistant, allows for precise dating of the fossils and the volcanic eruption.
- The late Cambrian period fossils, dating between 497 and 485 million years ago, provide crucial insights into Earth's history.
