Indian Equatorial Electrojet (IEEJ) Model
- Scientists from the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG) have recently developed an empirical model to better understand the Equatorial ElectroJet (EEJ) and its effects on satellite navigation, communication systems, and power grids.
- The model was created using long-term data collected from ground-based magnetometers in southern India.
- The model, called the Indian Equatorial Electrojet (IEEJ) Model, accurately predicts EEJ variations, which are critical for understanding ionospheric processes.
- The EEJ is a narrow band of intense electric current flowing at around 105-110 km in the ionosphere, impacting the geomagnetic field and ionospheric electric fields.
