Chittaranjan Das

On 5th November 2025, the Lok Sabha Speaker paid tribute to freedom fighter Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das on his birth anniversary.

About Chittaranjan Das

  • Chittaranjan Das (1870–1925), revered as Deshbandhu or Friend of the Nation, was known for his selfless leadership and commitment to India’s freedom struggle.

Legal Contributions

  • He successfully defended Aurobindo Ghose in the Alipore Bomb Case in 1908.
  • He also served as the defence counsel in the Dacca Conspiracy Case during 1910–11.

Role in the Freedom Movement

  • Actively participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1920.
  • Was elected President of the Indian National Congress at the 1922 Gaya session in Bihar.
