Sirpur Archaeological Site
In November 2025, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the Sirpur Special Area Development Authority (SADA) conducted a joint inspection of the Sirpur archaeological site to advance its nomination for the UNESCO World Heritage status.
Brief Description of Sirpur Archaeological Site
- Location: It is located in Mahasamund district, Chhattisgarh near Raipur on the banks of the Mahanadi.
- Discovery: It was a multi-religious urban centre (5th–12th century), discovered in 1882 by Alexander Cunningham.
Key Features
- The site contains 22 Shiva temples, five Vishnu temples, 10 Buddhist viharas, and three Jain viharas.
