Last year, privilege motion has been moved against the Union Defence Ministry, Union Textile Minister and Prime Minister on different occasions in Lok Sabha.

About Parliamentary Privilege & Motion

  • Article 105 (for Parliament) and Article 194 (for State Legislature) confers certain privileges on its members (including Attorney General of India) to:
  1. Protect freedom of speech and expression in the house and insulates them against litigation over matters that occur in these houses;
  2. Protect against any libel through speeches, printing or publishing;
  3. Ensure their functioning without undue influence, pressure or coercion; and
  4. Ensure sovereignty of Parliament.
