Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal
Supreme Court in July 2020 had asked the Central government to mediate between Punjab and Haryana to settle the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue.
SYL and the Associated Controversy
- Sutlej Yamuna Link Canal is an under-construction 214-kilometer long canal to connect the Sutlej and Yamuna rivers. The canal passes through the states of Punjab (122 kms) and Haryana (92 kms).
- The dispute is mainly due to sharing of water post creation of separate state of Haryana.
