Government Pays Tributes to Tamil Poet Thiruvalluvar

On 15th January, 2022, Prime Minister paid tributes to the Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar on Thiruvalluvar Day.

Thiruvalluvar

  • Also known as Valluvar, he was born in Madurai, the capital of the Pandyas.
  • The word ‘Thiruvalluvar’, means ‘the devotee of the Valluva caste’.
  • He is regarded as an Avatara of Brahma.
  • His wife Vasuki was a chaste and devoted lady.
  • He earned a living by weaving cloth and selling it.
  • He is known for his famous work "Thirukkural", which is considered as a very important text in Tamil literature.
  • He was chosen as the greatest historical figure in the Tamil language by Tamil scholars unanimously.
