Revised Guidelines on Obesity Diagnosis & Treatment
Recently, India has updated its obesity diagnosis and treatment guidelines after 15 years.
- This revision aligns with a global call for recalibration of how obesity is measured and takes into account recent findings on fat distribution and health risks, particularly in the Asian Indian population.
- The guidelines were developed using the Delphi process, a method for building expert consensus.
New Guidelines
Focus on Belly Fat
- Abdominal fat is now a key factor in diagnosing obesity due to its link to insulin resistance and other conditions.
Obesity-Related Issues
- The definition includes obesity-related issues like diabetes, heart disease, and joint pain.
