On 3rd January 2025, on the occasion of Savitribai Phule’s 194th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to India’s first woman teacher.
- Born in a small village in Satara district of Maharashtra on January 3, 1831, Savitribai Phule was an Indian social reformer, poet, and powerful voice in the Indian freedom struggle.

- Savitribai Phule was a trailblazer in providing education for girls and for ostracized portions of society.
- She became the first female teacher in India (1848) and opened a school for girls with her husband, Jyotirao Phule.
