Collegium System
- Recently the transfer of judges brought to light the collegium system.
- The Collegium System is a system under which appointments/elevation of judges/lawyers to Supreme Court and transfers of judges of High Courts and Apex Court.
- The appointment of the judges in the Supreme Court under Article 124(2)and the High Courts under Article 217, is done by the President of India.
- Transfer of Judges from one High Court to another High Court is made by the President after consultations with the Chief Justice of India under Article 222 (1) of the Constitution.
