Promotion and Regulation of E-Commerce in India
On 21st July, 2022, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on E-commerce came up with a report on ‘Promotion and Regulation of E-Commerce in India’ that examines and analyzes the various competition issues that exist in the e-commerce marketplace.
Key Recommendations
Measures related to Goods and Services Tax (GST) Regime
- Extend the threshold exemption provided to offline sellers in relation to GST registration to online sellers as well.
- Onboarding of small sellers on online platforms be allowed based on a three-way authentication of Aadhaar, Permanent Account Number (PAN) and bank details in place of mandatory GST registration.
