UN Water Convention
- Recently, Ivory Coast joined the UN Water Convention, becoming the 10th African nation to do so, enhancing cooperative water management across borders.
- The country is now the 53rd Party to the 1992 UN Water Convention, initially a regional framework for the pan-European region, which expanded globally in 2016.
- Ivory Coast shares eight transboundary river basins with its neighbours, facing challenges such as water stress and climate change impacts, particularly in the Niger basin, one of Africa's most vulnerable regions.
- With 40% of Africa situated on transboundary aquifers, the Convention facilitates cooperation on both surface and groundwater, essential for climate change ....
