Karivalamvanthanallur Excavation Finding

Excavations underway since April 2026 at Malayadipatti, near Karivalamvanthanallur on the banks of the Vaippar River in Tamil Nadu's Tenkasi district, has revealed significant evidence of long-term human occupation and organised industrial activity.

Key Findings

  • Continuous Cultural Sequence: Archaeological evidence indicates uninterrupted occupation from the Microlithic Period through the Iron Age to the Early Historic/Sangam and Historic periods, without distinct Neolithic or Chalcolithic phases. This pattern resembles Mangudi, Sivagalai and Adichanallur, highlighting a distinct cultural trajectory in southern Tamil Nadu.
