On 22nd July 2026, Tripura Chief Minister inaugurated Kharchi Puja, one of the state’s largest and most significant religious and cultural festivals, marking the beginning of the annual celebrations in Agartala.

About Kharchi Puja

  • Kharchi Puja is a week-long annual festival celebrated at Old Agartala, Tripura.
  • It is popularly known as the "Festival of 14 Gods".
  • The term 'Kharchi' is derived from the Tripuri words 'Khar/Kharta' (sin) and 'Chi/Si' (cleansing), signifying the ritual purification of sins.
  • The festival is observed on the eighth day after the new moon (Shukla Ashtami) during July–August every year.
