Sunlight-Powered Self-Charging Energy Storage Device
Recently, scientists at the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), Bengaluru, under DST, developed a photo-rechargeable supercapacitor that can both capture and store solar energy.
- It reduces cost, complexity and energy loss by integrating solar harvesting and storage in a single device, aiding clean and decentralised energy solutions.
What Has Been Developed?
- A photo-capacitor (sunlight-powered supercapacitor) that converts sunlight into electricity and stores it simultaneously.
- Unlike conventional systems (solar panel + battery/supercapacitor), this device works as a single integrated unit, eliminating extra power management electronics.
How Does It Work?
- The device uses nickel-cobalt oxide (NiCo₂O₄) nanowires grown directly on nickel ....
