Global Science-Policy Panel to Combat Chemicals, Waste and Pollution

On 20th June 2025, countries officially agreed to establish a new global science-policy panel under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), aimed at supporting the sound management of chemicals and waste and preventing pollution — marking a historic step in addressing the world’s growing environmental crisis.

What is the Global Science-Policy Panel?

  • A UN-backed body designed to bridge the gap between scientific evidence and policy action on pollution, chemicals, and waste.
  • It now joins the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) in tackling the triple planetary crisis.
