New Parasitic Wasp Discovered in Chandigarh
A new species of parasitic wasp named Losgna occidentalis was recently discovered in Chandigarh—the first formal insect species description from the city.
- The species belongs to the Ichneumonidae family (Darwin wasps), known for laying eggs on other arthropod hosts.
- It was rediscovered after nearly six decades, with the genus Losgna last recorded in India in 1965, and only preserved in old British-era collections in London, Oxford, and Munich.
- The name occidentalis reflects the westernmost sighting of the genus, previously known only from northeast India and Southeast Asia.
