India Hosts First International Big Cat Alliance Assembly

On 16 June 2025, the first Assembly of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) was held in New Delhi, with Union Environment Minister presiding and endorsed as IBCA President by nine attending countries, including Bhutan, Somalia, and Kazakhstan.

What is IBCA?

  • Launched by India in March 2024 via the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
  • Focuses on conserving seven big cat species: Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Cheetah, Jaguar, and Puma.
  • Aims to facilitate global cooperation, share conservation strategies, and replicate successful practices across range countries.
  • India has allocated Rs. 150 crore from 2023–2028 for its functioning.
