Jharkhand Plans Its First Tiger Safari

Jharkhand is planning to set up its first tiger safari in the Barwadih Western Forest Range in Latehar district, on the fringes of the Palamau Tiger Reserve (PTR).

The Proposal

  • The proposed tiger safari will:
  • Be located in the fringe forest outside the PTR core and buffer areas.
  • Cover around 150 hectares of forest land.
  • House only rescued, injured, or orphaned tigers — no wild tigers will be included.
  • Be compliant with Supreme Court and NTCA/CZA guidelines.

Economic and Employment Potential

  • Expected to create 200 local jobs — guides, staff, maintenance.
  • Aims to boost tourism and raise awareness through education and nature-based experiences.
