New Species of Intelligent Jumping Spider Discovered

A team of researchers has identified a new jumping spider species, Spartaeus karigiri, in Karnataka’s Devarayanadurga region, marking the first record of Spartaeus and Sonoita genera in India.

  • The discovery, expands India’s Spartaeinae subfamily to 15 species across 10 genera, highlighting the region's underexplored spider diversity.
  • Spartaeus karigiri males were found in rocky crevices, while females guarded egg clutches.
