Indian Ports Bill, 2025

On 28th March 2025, the Indian Ports Bill, 2025 was introduced in Lok Sabha to replace the century-old Indian Ports Act, 1908.

  • It aims to modernise port governance, improve dispute resolution, and promote maritime infrastructure development.

Key Features

  • Maritime State Development Council: A new council will be established, chaired by the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, with representation from states, Indian Navy, and Coast Guard. It will ensure transparency in port tariffs and streamline data collection and dissemination.
