Report on Swachh Bharat Mission - Grameen
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources in February 2025 published a report analyzing the implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen (SBM-G).
About SBM-G
- Launched in 2014, SBM-G is a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at achieving comprehensive rural sanitation coverage.
- The scheme follows a Jan Aandolan model, encouraging mass participation.
Phases of SBM-G
- Phase-I (2014-2019): Focused on making India Open Defecation Free (ODF) by providing toilet access to all rural households.
- Phase-II (2019-2025): Emphasizes ODF sustainability, solid and liquid waste management, and visual cleanliness.
Funding Pattern
- 60:40 cost-sharing between the Centre and States.
- Higher central contributions for special-category states and UTs.
