Strategic Mineral Mining Projects Exempted from Public Hearing

On 8th September 2025, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) issued an Office Memorandum (OM) exempting mining projects of atomic, critical, and strategic minerals from the public consultation requirement under the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification, 2006.

  • This exemption has been granted keeping in view national defence and security requirements and other strategic considerations, and is aligned with a recent request from the Ministry of Defence and the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).

  • Atomic minerals listed in Part B of the First Schedule of the MMDR Act, 1957.
