AI-Designed Proteins to Boost Immunity
Recently, a Harvard-led team used artificial intelligence (AI)-designed proteins to generate large numbers of immune cells and strengthen defence against diseases such as cancer and viral infections.
- The researchers created a synthetic activator of the Notch signalling pathway, a key system for cellular differentiation and T cell development, addressing the long-standing challenge of lacking effective molecular activators.
- AI-driven protein design technologies, which won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for David Baker, Demis Hassabis, and John Jumper, enabled the development of custom-designed soluble Notch agonists capable of functioning inside the body.
- Using these agonists, the team achieved large-scale T cell production in lab ....
