India Successfully Conducts First Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT-1)

On 24th August 2025, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully carried out its first Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT-1), a critical milestone in preparation for India’s maiden human spaceflight mission, Gaganyaan.

What is IADT-1?

  • Designed to test the parachute system that will slow the Gaganyaan crew module safely after re-entry.
  • Simulates the last stages of a space mission, including sequential deployment of drogue and three 25-m main parachutes.
  • Ensures the crew module slows to about 8 m/s before splashdown.
  • Although uncrewed, it replicates real mission conditions, with automated deployment of parachutes triggered from a height of 3 km.
