Evolution and Impact of India's Welfare Service Delivery Architecture
- The 'JAM' (Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile) trinity was envisioned to eliminate the problems of local offices and intermediaries, establishing a transparent and accountable service delivery system through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
- The Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Mission operates under the Cabinet Secretariat of the Government of India, monitoring over 300 central schemes across 50 ministries and over 2,500 state schemes.
- Between 2014 and 2026, the use of 'JAM' and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) resulted in the removal of over 10 crore fake/duplicate beneficiaries, leading to a cumulative saving of Rs. 5.1 lakh crore (with food subsidy being the largest contributor).
