India on the Path to Nutritional Security
- Moving beyond 'Food Security' (availability of calories), 'Nutritional Security' (affordable, diverse, safe, and micronutrient-rich diets) is now India's next priority.
- India currently faces the complex challenge of the 'Triple Burden of Malnutrition' (undernutrition, micronutrient deficiency, and rising obesity).
- The National Family Health Survey-6 (NFHS-6) has recorded improvements in child nutrition and maternal health, though diet diversity remains a concern.
- To address 'Hidden Hunger', the government is distributing 'Fortified Rice' (containing Iron, Folic Acid, and Vitamin B-12) through PDS and 'Poshan 2.0'.
