Health Technology Assessment (HTA): Strategic Basis for Universal Health Coverage
- The primary objective of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) in India is to formulate evidence-based policies for Universal Health Coverage based on clinical effectiveness, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
- In line with the recommendations of the National Health Policy 2017, an HTA vertical was established under the Department of Health Research (DHR), which has completed over 80 studies.
- Based on HTA assessments, 'Point-of-Care (PoC)' tests for rapid screening under the National Sickle Cell Elimination Mission and 'C-TB' tests for latent TB infection have been adopted.
