India's Free Trade Agreements: A New Era of Economic Diplomacy
- By the beginning of 2026, 13 of India's Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) have become effective. These focus on increasing foreign investment, technology transfer, and India’s participation in global value chains in line with 'Viksit Bharat@2047'.
- The India-Mauritius Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA) is India's first trade agreement with any African country, strengthening India’s strategic reach in the Western Indian Ocean region.
- The most prominent feature of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) is that 'market access' has been linked to 'investment commitment,' under which EFTA countries aim to mobilize $100 billion in investment in India over 15 years.
