Vyommitra: India’s Half-humanoid Astronaut
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) recently unveiled its first ‘woman’ astronaut- a half-humanoid named Vyommitra- ahead of the first test flight of India’s human space mission, Gaganyaan.
Vyommitra
- Vyommitra derives her name from a combination of two terms: ‘Vyoma’, meaning space and ‘Mitra’, meaning friend.
- It is an artificial intelligence-based robotic system, being developed by ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU), Thiruvananthapuram.
- She is a half-humanoid as she will have a head, two hands and a torso and will not have lower limbs.
- Before real astronauts embark on the space journey, the humanoid will simulate the human functions in the crew module of Gaganyaan ....
