3D Bioprinting: A Medical Marvel
Scientists at the University of Lincoln recently developed a prototype for the first 3D printed, sensor-operated prosthetic arm designed for toddlers. It has been termed SIMPA- Soft-Grasp Infant Myoelectric Prosthetic Arm.
- The device has soft grip fingers and uses a seven-channel paediatric armband fitted with sensors to detect electrical signals naturally conducted by muscles. This enables toddlers to grip and pick up objects in much the same way as they would do with a natural arm.
- This is a significant development that points to a future of infinite possibilities with 3D Bioprinting.
