Renewable Energy and Land Use in India by Mid-Century

Recently, the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) released a report titled, ‘Renewable Energy and Land Use in India by Mid-Century’.

The report considers the land-use implications of India’s unfolding energy transition and the important choices about where these resources should be located.

Key Highlights

  • Land-Use for Renewables: In its efforts to reduce carbon emissions and generate renewable energy, India will use significant stretches of land by 2050 to install renewable energy generation facilities.
  • Around 50,000-75,000 sq km of land will be used by 2050 for solar energy generation and an additional 15,000-20,000 sq km for wind energy projects.
