Gravitational Lensing to Investigate ‘How Stars are Born’
Space effectively acts as a time machine - the further away we look, the further back in time we’re seeing as it also takes a greater amount of time for the light to reach our eyes. Using NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope as a sort of time machine, researchers plan to investigate how new stars are born. For this, they will take the help of a natural phenomenon called “gravitational lensing”.
Gravitational Lensing
- Gravitational lensing is an effect of Einstein’s theory of general relativity – simply put, mass bends light.
- The phenomenon occurs when a huge amount of matter, such as ....
