Collegium Recommendations on Appointment of Judges to High Courts
Recently, the Supreme Court of India was critical on Centre’s delay to act on the recommendations of the Collegium and appoint judges to High Courts.
About the Issue
- The ever increasing vacant posts of judges are crippling the Indian judiciary, forcing a bar councils to even threaten a stir if the problem is not addressed immediately.
- The government’s “recalcitrant attitude” has left the High Courts with skeletal judicial strength.
- For example, the Delhi High Court will be with less than 50% judges in a week’s time, having only 29 judges out of a strength of 60 judges.
