Meghalaya becomes 1st State to Ensure Water Conservation
Amid the water crisis in the country, the Meghalaya became the first state to approve a draft water policy to address water issues, conservation, and protection of water sources in the state.
‘State Water Policy’ of Meghalaya
Objective
- To recognize water resources as a common pool resource (CPR) as these are susceptible to overuse.
- To provide safe and hygienic water for drinking, domestic needs and sanitation.
- Livelihood development to all residents of state.
Significance of the Policy
- The policy intends to achieve sustainable development, management and use of water resources with community participation.
