Anti-Defection Law
Leader of Opposition in the Goa Legislative Assembly is set to move a private member’s resolution during the next session of the Assembly to bring about “necessary changes” in the anti-defection law.
About Anti-Defection Law
- The anti-defection law was passed in 1985 through the 52nd Amendment to the Constitution.
- The Amendment added the Tenth Schedule to the Indian Constitution, with intent to curb “the evil of political defections”.
- The constitutional provisions alluding to the consequences of disqualification are Articles 102 and 191 of the Constitution.
- Articles 75(1)(B), 164(1)(B), and 361(1)(B) contain the other consequences of disqualification
