New AI Model Predicts El Niño and La Niña 15 Months in Advance
In June 2024, Hyderabad-based Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) introduced a novel forecasting tool known as Bayesian Convolutional Neural Network (BCNN) capable of predicting El Niño and La Niña conditions up to 15 months ahead, using advanced technologies.
Understanding El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) Phenomenon
- ENSO is a climate phenomenon which involves changes in the temperature of waters in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean, coupled with fluctuations in the overlying atmosphere.
