NHRC’s Observations & Directives against Human Trafficking
On 31st May, 2024, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) made observations and issued certain directives to curb the menace of human trafficking across India.
Observations Made by NHRC
- Selling of Girls Still Prevalent: Given the registration of cases involving the selling of girls in some communities in the recent past, the practice of selling the girls, many of whom are minors, is still continuing unabated and prevailing undeterred.
- Prevalence of Nata Pratha: Nata Pratha, which involves the selling or marrying off of underage girls, is still prevalent in certain communities within the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, ....
