India Launches BharatGen
On 30th September 2024, India inaugurated BharatGen, a groundbreaking initiative in generative AI aimed at enhancing public service delivery and citizen engagement through the development of foundational models in language, speech, and computer vision.
- This initiative is recognized as the world’s first government-funded multimodal large language model project, with a focus on fostering inclusive AI solutions that cater to Indian languages.
- Spearheaded by IIT Bombay under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), the project aims to develop generative AI systems capable of producing high-quality text and multimodal content in multiple Indian languages.
