India Launches IRSA 1.0
On 6th October 2025, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with the Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) and the Tri-Services, released the Indian Radio Software Architecture (IRSA) Standard 1.0 — a major step toward self-reliance and interoperability in India’s defence communication systems.
Key Features of IRSA 1.0
- IRSA 1.0 is a comprehensive software architecture standard for Software Defined Radios (SDRs), defining uniform interfaces, APIs, and waveform portability mechanisms.
- Ensures interoperability, certification, and conformance across SDR platforms used by the Indian Armed Forces.
- Designed to evolve with emerging operational needs, supporting next-generation communication technologies.
