Hybrid Aerogel for Gold Extraction from E-Waste
A group of researchers from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune have recently developed a hybrid aerogel that efficiently extracts gold from electronic waste, offering a sustainable and economic solution for e-waste management.
Aerogel Technology and Its Effectiveness
- Aerogel Composition: The researchers designed a sponge-like aerogel, which is lightweight, porous, and ideal for environmental applications such as oil spill clean-up.
- Extraction Efficiency: The hybrid aerogel, treated with iron nitrate salts, was found to be effective in extracting up to 99% of gold ions from e-waste.
- Performance under Light: The aerogel extracts 1689mg/gram of aerogel in daylight and 2349mg/gram under ....
