DRDO Successfully Tests SMART System
On 1st May, 2024, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful flight test of the Supersonic Missile-Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART) system from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha.
SMART System Overview
- Developed by DRDO, SMART is a cutting-edge missile-based lightweight torpedo delivery system aimed at enhancing the Indian Navy's anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
- It extends the range of lightweight torpedoes far beyond conventional limits.
- Launched from a ground mobile launcher, the missile underwent rigorous testing, validating various state-of-the-art mechanisms such as symmetric separation, ejection, and velocity control.
