ISRO partners with Sweden for ‘Shukrayaan’ Mission
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) signed an MoU with Sweden’s National Space Agency for the ‘Shukrayaan’ mission during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Gothenburg during 16-17 May, 2026.
About Shukrayaan Mission
- It is India’s first Venus exploration mission
- “Shukrayaan” (in Sanskrit) means: Venus Craft in English
- Launch Date (planned): 29 March 2028
- Launch Vehicle: LVM-3 rocket
Mission Objectives
- To study surface characteristics, solar wind interaction, and atmospheric evolution.
Sweden’s Contribution
- Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF) will provide: Venusian Neutrals Analyser (VNA).
- VNA will be integrated into: VISWAS payload (Venus Ionospheric and Solar Wind Particle AnalySer).
