Mission MITRA Launched to Study Human Factors for Space Missions
From 2 to 9 April 2026, the Indian Space Research Organisation conducted Mission MITRA (Mapping of Interoperable Traits and Response Assessment) in Leh, Ladakh, to study crew performance, psychological resilience, and adaptability under high-altitude conditions simulating human spaceflight environments.
What is Mission MITRA?
- A human spaceflight analog mission.
- Studies physiological, psychological and operational behaviour.
- Focus on gaganyatris (astronauts) and ground teams.
Where is the Mission Conducted?
- Location: Leh, Ladakh.
- Altitude: ~3,500 metres.
- Simulates:
- Hypoxia (low oxygen),
- Low temperatures, and
- Isolation conditions.
Objectives of the Mission
- Assess crew performance under stress.
- Study team coordination and decision-making.
- Analyse human factors in extreme environments.
