Indian Army Signs Deal for ‘Suryastra’
On 3rd January 2026, under emergency procurement (EP) powers, the Indian Army signed a Rs.293 crore contract with Pune-based NIBE Limited, in collaboration with Elbit Systems, for the supply of an advanced long-range universal rocket launcher system.
What is being procured?
- The system, named Suryastra, is India’s first Made-in-India universal multi-calibre rocket launcher.
- It can fire rockets with strike ranges of 150 km and 300 km, significantly enhancing deep-strike artillery capability.
- The launcher can integrate multiple rocket types from a single platform.
Key Capabilities of Suryastra
- Maximum Strike Range: Up to 300 km.
- Precision: Circular Error Probable (CEP) of less than 5 metres ....
