LR-AShM at Republic Day Parade
At the 77th Republic Day Parade on Kartavya Path, Defence Research and Development Organisation showcased the Long Range Anti-Ship Hypersonic Missile (LR-AShM) for the first time, highlighting India’s growing hypersonic strike capability for maritime security.
What is LR-AShM?
- Type: Hypersonic glide missile (quasi-ballistic).
- Role: Designed for coastal battery requirements of the Indian Navy.
- A coastal battery is a land-based system of artillery or missiles specifically designed to protect a coastline from enemy ships.
- Range: 1,500 km (future variants up to 3,500 km under development).
- Targets: Can engage static and moving naval targets.
- Payload: Configurable for multiple mission needs.
