World-Class Environmental and Solar Metrology Facilities at CSIR-NPL
On 5th January 2026, Union Minister inaugurated the world’s second National Environmental Standard Laboratory (NESL) and the fifth National Primary Standard Facility for Solar Cell Calibration (NPF-SCC) at CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (NPL) during its 80th Foundation Day.
- The National Environmental Standard Laboratory will strengthen environmental governance by enabling accurate, India-specific calibration of air pollution monitoring instruments, supporting initiatives such as the National Clean Air Programme.
- The Solar Cell Calibration Facility, developed in collaboration with PTB Germany, places India in an elite global group in solar metrology with a best-in-class uncertainty level of 0.35%.
