NASA Launches SPHEREx Mission
On 11th March 2025, NASA launched the Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization and Ices Explorer (SPHEREx) aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
- The mission aims to explore the origins of the universe, trace galaxy evolution, and identify life-forming molecules in the Milky Way.
Mission Objectives
- SPHEREx will create the most detailed map of the sky ever made, capturing it in 102 infrared colours every six months.
- It will measure the 3D positions of 450 million galaxies, helping scientists understand the early expansion of the universe.
