Impact of SBM on Infant Mortality Rates in India
On 5th September, 2024, Nature, world’s leading multi-disciplinary science journal, published a study, titled ‘Toilet construction under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) and infant mortality in India’.
- The study analysed data spanning a decade (2011-2020), focusing on infant mortality rate (IMR) and under-five mortality rate (U5MR) per thousand live births as the primary outcomes.

- Historically, toilet access and child mortality have shown a robust inverse association in India.
